One last question -- I did not know that I was dealing with a laptop
when I asked about the floppy disk.
Do you have a CD in the CD-ROM drive?
Although some machines allow you to assign a specific boot order,
generally they will boot floppy first, CD-ROM second, hard disk last
(assuming that you don't have a PXE network card boot option)
Recent (8 years +/-) machines will detect the CD-ROM and give you a few
seconds to press the "Any Key" to boot from it but then default to
booting from the local Hard Disk. Earlier machines would really try to
boot from the CD-ROM and would fail if there was a disk present and if
it was not bootable.
Looking back on your earlier post:
"Will this work w/ laptops (both are HP
omnibooks)? I've upgraded before from
20 to 40 gb so I'm not concerned w/
swapping but thoguht OS was on hd thus
the same prob w/ boot up, no??"
I Googled around a bit and the earlier Omnibooks seem to pre-date USB
ports.
They might also be of the vintage that would be tripped up by a CD in
the drive.
What model OmniBook are we dealing with?
