Actually... here's a funny thing. I think this all
started because (well, it seems anyway) that my mcafee
virus program asked me if I wanted to renew and that I
only had 24 or 25 days left or some such. I said no
thinking I'd push it to the end. It updated and I
went on w/ my world. Then the next morning is when my
comp went down (omnibook XE3 new in 2001). Got my
backup XE3 going and got online to figure this one
out. Finally got my original back up and rolling
through a borrowed windows 2k pro os CD. Had to
disable a couple of drivers to get it to boot up but
managed to do so. Then my other went down. They both
started ditching through lsass.exe (which is also as I
understand an authentic OS system as well so the virus
is tricky in that aspect) and gave me 60 seconds to
close things out. I had managed to pick up a virus.
Now, I've updated everything back to normal on this
original and my other I can't get up and running to
windows so have to go through the whole process w/
that now. I believe, looking back, that the only
thing that was updated was mcafee after I told them
I'd rather wait and renew later (okay, maybe I'm being
paranoid) but that's the only thing I did differently
on either laptop.

Main thing is I now have backed up my cad files (My
main concern) to my external hd and I'm experienced at
getting this back up and rolling so hopefully won't
take me as long to figure out my backup as it did this
one... oh, btw... I renewed my subscription to mcafee
for 35 bucks on this comp (I share subscriptions on
them normally works fine but still think they have a
conspiracy to keep us online with their renewal status
but how could you prove that one, eh?? It's the only
config that was different as my last program I
installed was bobcad/cam v20). Also... if I still
had 24 days left before expiration, why did I catch it
in the first place, I ask???? :-D my story....
stickin to it.

p.s. I've never had a problem keeping disks in either
a: or d: or E: on these comps.
