Double Drat!
Do your laptops have USB ports?
The only way to do the double drive thing would be now to buy an
external hard disk box with internal circuitry to convert the drive
interface to USB.
I have used NewEgg for a long time and have been very happy with their
service. They have 42 cases available for laptop drives and USB -- there
are some ones for under $10 but the majority of them are in the $20
price range with some going for up to $30 and $40. I would look at the
$20 units (the people who write the drivers need to get paid) and try
this route. NewEgg is good about returns so save all your packaging and
receipts.
Here is a link to the list of all of their external USB cases for 2.5"
laptop drives:

Good luck!
