yup. and there is a very good reason the mill does not do more than
about 12 inches on the Y axis. the strength of the 300 pound cast
iron knee and the 200 pound ram become too flexable when they hang out
too far.

Assuming a person wants to mill/drill/rout a PCB, the style of machine
is that all that important, but when a person has a particular style
machine in mind, it often shows the need or want to do other things.
And further reading into the post, many people think that if one just
does a little bit of metal, that things will be fine so a few odd
aluminum and steep parts could be made....

A specific purpose machine for PCB's would be easy to make, strong
enough to do all the plastics and some wood. actually a lot of wood.

Combine that with dirt cheap and that insunuates one will not be
buying much of anything.

Old daisywheel printers will still be the best bet. have axes, motors
drivers and power supply. that would be a couple hundred dollars in
savings right there.

And one could use wood as the frame.

So, if the goal is a PCB etcher/router/driller a gantry style machine
will be the best choice.

Another simple drilling machine is to buy a $75 drill press and a $100
X/Y table, but the electronics package will cost to get decent sized
motors and drivers and power supply.
