HPs always have servo drives which is great if you can drive them the
epsons just offer a complete actuator if you add a bearing and you
only need a stepper driver, if you just want mechanics is makes no odds.

Well one thing is for sure, they will drive the motors in the printer OK.

I just stripped an epson down myself tonight, I found that and a pair
of 5.5" floppy drives in the recyling pile so I'm recyling them :) The
floppy drives have some lovely band drives in rather than the modern
leadscrew assembly. I also just got through stripping 30 hard drives
down, lovely cartridge bearing assembly on the voice coil arm and
pretty nice bearings in the spindle. Great for pivots, followers and
all kinds of other stuff.

OT, I'm hoping the three epson belt drives and all of those pivot
bearings will come together to make a triaglide parallel kinematic
machine I've been promising for some time.
