Thanks. Yes. I did figure out that I'd have to either use a spiral 1 turn
per inch type screw or a belt/cable drive. But I had to program 3000 of the
little boards and it turned out that human labour to do that was less
expensive in time compared to reworking the XY stages. The MDF is also
quite heavy. But it did draw the MACH2 road runner without any problems. So
for milling or engraving....

And, the surplus stepper motors had about 20mH inductance compared to the
new ones with 1/4 that so those old motors really limited speed. I'm using
the new ones on my lathe at the moment for developing and testing the
Electronic Leadscrew.

I've updated http://www.autoartisans.com/cnc/prgm1.htm with a few more links
to photos that show that anyone can build an XY stage with only a small
Unimat SB200 and a home made Gingery Lathe. And now that I have a new
spindle in the Gingery with a hole all the way through and drill chuck on
the tailstock, the DB200 isn't needed anymore.
