Point (3): That's the reason why our sine-cosine reference morphs
into a quadrature (full-step) reference starting at 3 revs/sec and
finishing at 6 revs/second. Above 4-6 reves per second the motor is
being driven by a full-step sequence.

Torque is an "area under the curve" thing. A sine function (0 to 180
degrees) has pi/4 area compared to a squarewave (0 to 180 degrees).

Doing so extracts the maximum possible power from the motor.
