Most commercial mills will use bellows made out of stiff fabrique, vinyl or
leather. It normally covers leadscrews and guides and slides/is supported on
the guides.

I have remade simple ones from cheap car rubber floor mats, and complex ones
from leather with card glued inside to the flat surfaces so the leather acts
as the hinge.

Have a look at old camera bellows and enlarge on that idea a bit.

My big mill telescopic flat plates on top of the lead screws that run in
slotted guides

Then on top of this are 6 section folded metal sheet telescopic metal covers
that covereverything that hangs out the ends, including lead screws and
guides.

The edges of these sections all have tight plastic wipers to stop any
material getting underneath.

Hi Bill,

What went wrong with the rubber material? Attaching it?
I use a rigged up thing with the shop-vac, but I hate the noise.
Plus the bellows wouldn't even work on my homemade machine.

I got some plumbing parts...P-Trap and an electrical conduit
strap and made that work..Don't know if that'd help you though.
