Something that I've seen is they put short pieces of plastic pipe as a
press-fit to the
ID of the bellows every so many undulations to prevent the soft bellows
rubbing on
the leadscrew and wearing through.

The other material is a spring made out of flat steel with the middle
wider than
the ends. You attach the ID to one end, the OD to the other end of the
length of
screw to be protected. This stuff can take a wider range of travel than
one would
expect. Somebody is selling this stuff on eBay.
