As Mariss mentions, servo motors like to turn faster than steppers.
Ideally you want belt reduction. The other alternative is to use a motor
with enough torque to directly drive the screw. This is often done on
industrial machines. Your machine will probably end up capable of silly
rapid speeds but you don't have to use all of the available speed.
A smaller motor will of course be cheaper then a big motor. However when
when you figure in the cost of the belts/pulleys and labour you will
probably find that overall a bigger motor will be cheaper.
