OK, so how does the new guy spot a lemon?

My sugguestion is to look at the DC supply voltage. If its much less than
24V then you're probably not looking at a good chopper drive.
Isolation is another good indicator of a quality product. Although you can
stuff it up with cheap(slow) opto-couplers.

I do think the term "performance" is used non specifically. Defining the
problem is really the crux of the issue.

If you want performance you need to go to commercial drives and motors.
Then you should also have a high performance CNC like the MachineMate CNC
which is a reasonable price CNC but major performance. Any questions let me
know.
