Andy:

One other note on that, is dont optimise unless you need to. Most dont. Not a good idea to be shutting off areas of Windows
when their not harming anyone. :)

Thanks,

Looks to me as if Tormach simply copied the XP Optimisation file written
originally by Olivier Adler, and available on the Mach1 mach2 group.

Since they use Mach, there is no problem with them using the docs, but
Olivier should get the credit for this.

Also, if anyone attempts the optimization, note that the FIRST thing you
do should be to set the PC to "Standard PC", instead of ACPI. If you do
it down in the middle of the list, you will have to do most of the stuff
you have already done, again.

Tormach offers a well detailed methodology of how to strip out all the
various Windoz related interrupts that allows CNC SW to manage the
machine
while running on Windows. I am running their product on a machine with
XP
as the OS. Before following their detailed process I had results like
Lurch
has reported.

I am not saying that this would solve Lurch's issues, obviously
following
Supertech's direction is the correct answer. But to the rest of us,
there
are steps that can be taken to allow some of these CNC products to
co-exist
with Windoz, be it 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, or XP. I have one machine that
runs
under DOS 6.x, one that runs under Windows 98 using the DOS option, and
one
running on XP. So, the Tormach solution of stripping out all the
superfluous stuff is working so far on my PCNC (XP). I am going to try
the
older programs on the stripped XP computer and see how that works, just
for
the fun of it. Besides that, DOS 6.x is getting a bit long in the
tooth, as
is 98...

If you are interested in how Tormach recommends stripping the XP based
computer a full manual is available on their website.it is 160+ pages
and
much of it is relevant to only the PCNC mill...Most of what may be of
interest starts on about page 152. By the way there is a fair amount of
info regarding G&M codes and the like in this manual also..there may be
more
detailed sources but Tormach has done a nice job on this manual.

I have no $$$$ interest in Tormach, just mentioning this FYI for this
group..

We have found in the past that communication with the vendor is the
best approach. SuperTech has been around for a long time and has sold
lot's of machines and has lots of satisfied customers.

We ask anyone with problems with a specific vendor to exhaust all the
options before making a negative post on the list. There are a lot of
new vendors out there and the market is dotted with semi-shady
operators. Dennis is NOT one of them.

The positive part of this is that Dennis resolved the issue and your
problem is fixed.

While it's important that the members learn of vendors with which they
should not do business it's incumbent on us to proceed carefully and
not create problems for good vendors.

We only allow first hand experiences and only if they are of relevance
to the group.

The existence of low cost providers for Home Shop CNC are what allowed
this hobby to grow exponentially. Lets be careful not hurt them.

Thanks for your feedback and letting us know of the positive response!
