I agree with Dave about chip control and also others who advise
getting the keyboard out of the way.
For this reason I have mounted all the vises on my millers in sheet
metal trays. This has two plusses, one it stops coolant running off
the vise onto the floor and secondly it allows you to clip a simple
but effective screen to the tray. There is a photo at
http://www.metalworking.com/dropbox/_1999_retired_files/milltray.jpg
It's a bit messy as stuff had been dumped on the bed but you get the
general idea.
The monitor which is a small 12" IBM surplus colour one is mounted in
an enclosure with the keyboard sat on an angled shelf. The enclosure
also holds switches for manual control of the clutches and spindle as
these are usually done by the computer. It also hold a floppy drive
connected to the computer by a long ribbon cable. The keypad is the
remote panel for the invertor drive, handy for getting speed or amp
readings whilst cutting.
The big blue box to the left on stilts is what is left of the old
Posidata controller. The computer lives inside there on the top shelf.
Keyboards are just cheapo standard things. Since the photo was taken
I found some smaller than standard ones in BLACK [ good colour this ]
at a place called Office World somewhere in down town San Francisco.
Don't ask me where I was lost. It was somewhere under the freeways as
we were trying to get to the Golden gate bridge.
These were $4.00 each, I brought two back home.
