I presume you guys are talking about routers. There is less requirement for
high speed for me on my mill. I rarely mill at more than 5ipm. I sometimes
use a ½” hogging mill taking a ½ deep cut in aluminum. In that case I might
try to get as high as 2ipm. I can notice a speed reduction on the 2hp motor
on the mill so I’m assuming the steppers must be working pretty hard to push
the cutter along. I’ve never had a problem. As for G0’s I have the motor
maximum speed actually turned down. I don’t like to get into trouble too
quickly. I can imagine different requirements in a router application where
you can rip through material at high speed.
