John I wrote an article for the Digital Machinist magazine that was
published in the summer 2012 edition. It was the feature article and was on
the cover of the magazine and showed a machine that I retrofitted with and
extruder.

you are not in a big hurry.

The article describes using Mach3 and an extruder with a 4th axis to control
it. The item that really made the project was the dual thermostatic PID
controller for the extruder temperature and the hearted build bed that
should be easily added to your router mechanism.
