It's obvious that the spindle side pully, and the toothed pulley below
it are working at some ratio, matters not if the pully is up or down.
Yes, I'm well familiar with how this setup is -supposed- to work, and it
doesn't. When letting the pulley down (lever to the front), it should
engage the dogs for direct drive, but never does.
Engaging the side lever locks the spindle.
Something is different here, and that's why I'm hesitant to rip it apart
with such a huge job in progress. I'm also hesitant to order up a full
set of bearings only to find maybe they didn't use all the same bearings
as BP. With part of the power feed gone, who knows what all else was
modified in the head for CNC use.
However, I know someone that has a number for Millport, apparently they
are still in business. If I'm lucky, there might be someone there that
knows what's different about this head.
I'd like to keep the step pulleys along with the two speed motor, it
allows me to go pretty darn slow without taking the VFD down to 10hz.
Will post what I find when I do get inside it!
