Ballendo:
One of the motors had the encoder/gearhead attached - but I took it off and
tossed it. Didn't seem necessary to my application. Did I screw up?
BTW Just found another old printer - a Digital daisy wheel. Two more
steppers inside but didn't get around to tearing it apart just yet. Will
post when I do.
Thanks for all the info. While accuracy is important, I am routing wood
signs and not space shuttles. The software I have now (comes with my
machine but got it in advance to play with) has a nice config file that I
can specify steps/rev, gear ratio, etc. for each axis and has a resolution
of slightly greater than .0002". Hope I can config MY creation the same as
the purchased one so I can use the same s/w without reconfiguring it each time.
