Hi Alan and Terry,
Tim Goldstein's weblink at:

Shows the connections at the bottom in a picture.
The goal is to not draw hardly any current from the
parallel port like you said(only several Ma max.)
You can up the voltage to the relay to a 12v or 15v
supply if the relay needs more volatge across the coil.
To be safe, use 2 1.5v batteries as the "control pin"
supply till you get it working, then connect it to the
parallel port after its verified. Use the values of
resistors in the diagram to limit currents to safe values
or you will damage the port for certain.
