Note that there are failure modes that do not show up immediately, including
increased leakage current and changes in characteristics due to injection
of hot
carriers that change thresholds.

I don't think this is something that should be ignored, however if the
production
quantity is small and the reliability requirements are lax, you can
probably get
away with it.
