Hi,

I mentioned hand washing because my wife would not be amused to find
grunge-covered electronics in her dishwasher. The important part is
heating the boards afterwards long enough to completely drive off any
residual moisture.

Applying power to a wet board produces all sorts of interesting
metallic salts by electrolyisis. These are conductive and often
hydrophyilic. Once "manufactured" they remain on the board ready to
cause problems in the future.
