I found a little in MaxNC's -PRO manual last night, Yep, G61. Their ad
for the digitizer ($250USD ?) says it runs with any of their programs,
but I think as Ballendo said, it just stops there, no data collection.
a G61 would be easy to code into a controller program. I intend to add
it (with data save to file), and perhaps other controller writers can
too.

If the digitizer software is for step/dir, might be useable. If a
controller program can do G61 *AND* output data to a file, then I'm
thinking that a Gcode program to do a "core" trace (attempt to contour a
known object SMALLER then the part to be digitized), and "scan" the
object. Hope this makes some sense. Any other ideas? I'd love to
watch a digitizer program run!

I checked RS274NGC and NIST doc's, didn't see G61 or G31 used as a probe
command. The NIST doc recently posted is quite good, but I didn't find
a way to print the entire doc out.
