Al,

You got me!!! I WAS sure I was sure when I typed it. NOW I'm sure I
blew it! The circuit IS what renishaw shows in their patent. But you
are correct;If the 'star' is fully conductive(which I had said was
okay), lifting the top arm (of my drawing) will NOT break the
circuit...

Appears that we DO need at least ONE insulated 'arm'.

P.S. Anyone who wants to make one should follow the link posted by
Doug earlier re:patent #4,375,723. The drawings show quite clearly
the construction... BTW, patent date is Mar. 8, 1983. Patents used
to run for 17 years...
