The Sherline leadscrews are 1/4"-20; the Taig leadscrews are 1/2"-20. The
two machines have a similar working X/Y/Z envelope; however, the Taig is a
lot more robust (the leadscrews being but one example). I would agree that
25 lbs cutting force might be a huge amount for the Sherline to cope with;
not so sure about the Taig.
