Who said anything about steel? As I clearly stated, the needed materials
do not exist today in quantities that would make it feasible. They
barely exist in the laboratory. Of course steel is not going to work.
It's going to require a very advanced material, and I would imagine that
constructing it is going to be one of the engineering marvels of all
time. All of human history is a story of man working towards a goal and
solving problems to get to that goal. Just because we cannot build it
today doesn't mean it can't/won't be built.
Of course, maybe it won't work, but it's so attractive compared to the
alternatives that it really bears serious study.
