RE: Low cost Servo Controller

Jon, Thanks for your feedback. You asked why anyone might want to apply servo motors to software which supplies step and direction signals, rather than obtain existing controllers and motors for one or the other? First of all, so far, no one has set me straight on the EMC (or other) drivers for servo or stepper controllers. Such information will be helpful. It may bring to light many facts concerning this.

The cost - performance consideration is the major reason I am exploring the feasability of this issue, and will contine to explore it until the brick wall is in the headlights. In specific, will every software program run with either steppers or servos? On a budget, if you run steppers without ball screws, what are your software options? If you want to go up a notch from there, what are the options?

A hobby shop probably doesn't need a great deal of speed, but it's nice because of the lack of time in the shop in the first place. The cost / benefit factors are likely strong in the hobby shop.

Let me ask one question? Does anyone have any use for motion control which:
Responds to simple step and direction signals from the computer. (And what Software?)
Does not absolutely require ball lead screws. (and the expense).
Obtain feedback from the table itself for higher accuracy.
Drives Brush type DC Servo Motors at higher speeds with good resoultion.
Has a similar cost to Stepper motors plus Stepper controller.
