Hi Matt,
You might try putting together a little "kit" from your friendly
neighborhood electronics store. They can probably also tell you if
you're soldering OK. Dan just built one, and as I recall, he had
limited soldering experience.
I have had a "motion control kit" for about 3 years, and I can tell you,
while it's not very fast, it DOES work fine! Bigger is better!
My kit will take up duty on a small PCB router, after being replaced
with Gecko's and 180 oz/motors on my old Sears/Sherline mill.
