Hi Jerry
EMC is the only low cost package that will support servos and closed loop
feedback - I know there are step/dir drivers, and the STG card ain't that
cheap, but there are other advantages.
Want G70/G71 instead of G20/G21, or how about a single M code for turning on
both the spindle and coolant. May be you want to run a hexapod, is there a
Windows package in the same price bracket as EMC ?
EMC is still somewhat difficult to tune with some setups - Even the BDI CD
cannot get round this.
For me, the main attractions are many -
1) Free and open access to the source code for the WHOLE system. Got a bug or
some unsupported hardware - it's easier to fix.
2) The vendor goes bust - With Linux and open source, the project lives on.
3) No one dictating what you can or can't do with the software or demanding
fees for bug fixes/upgrades. (Wot's a dongle anyway).... <g>
4) Thanks to EMC, I've made friends all over the world.
And it's two fingers up at Redmont !
Regards, Paul.
