Ok guys these sounds really good. I feel like I'm mssing out on something.
Considering that I have never seen Linux work and that I don't even know
what EMC stands for, where and how could I get started with this thing? Any
websites, sources where I can download or acquire these softwares?

Thanks,
Alex

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Re: Why EMC?

Here are my reasons for using EMC in approximate order:

1) It works better than any other DOS or Windoze non-hardware
assisted alternative I have tried, professional or hobby level. It
is very well engineered. It runs very smoothly, is tweakable and
extendable.

2) It uses a proper operating system in a real-time environment. No
random disk accesses, email programs or other oddities interrupting
milling operations.

3) It is open source. I can tweak it if and as need be and
contribute improvements back into the mindshare as the opportunity
arises. I can also benefit by adapting improvements made by people
other than the original authors.

4) It is free.

5) It runs on Linux. Closely related to #2 above.

6) Great support through the user community and from the developers.

Linux is not for everyone. I will leave it at that since the rest
really is another thread. If EMC were offered on Windows and worked
as well as it does there as it does on Linux, I would still use it.

Regards,

Barry
