I wanted to post a thought on connectors the other day but could not find a
DigiKey catalog to make sure I gave the right part reference.

( digikey... 3 catalogs a week show up, and I can't find a one!)

Speaking of strictly "outside" connections, I'm all for the Serial Port from
PC to your box. You can get the step rates necessary from that port. Also, It
is a snap to switch to another PC if one goes bad and you want to stay on
track making parts with a machine.

I would say the DB 25 would be nice for the low level signals from your Black
Box to the drivers. The driver end may just need to be bare wires so it can
interface with whatever. If 25 pins is not enough, a bigger D-Sub is good.

For I/O wires, I have two methods I like best. The First is your simple
Moldex Plugs. They are available at just about any HackShack which makes them
a plus in my book on a Sunday afternoon.

Second is the "mini" version of the same plug, "Mini-Fit Jr's". These make
things a bit more "petite" for installing but are a little harder to get your
hands on when you need them most.

I know Many deal with shielding issues around Plasma, but I have my plasma
using plastic plugs without any issues. There are also the dirt and coolant
issues..... but, I don't place my electronics in my coolant pond so I'm ok
there !

I know this does not apply but, As one side note for plugs in regards motor
feeds, I really like the simple AMP circular Plastic Plugs like DigiKey
A25053-ND. With the twist to affix, they cannot pull loose and they have pin
sizes big enough to handle most apps.
