My favorite is a detented dial with 0-150%, and stops at each 10%.
On the AB8400 it applies to jog mode if on pulse wheel or jog button,
and against programmed feed during program operation. They use the
softkeys for axis selection and pulse resolution is set by the feed
hold knob.

That should have been ".010 and .001", slipped into mixed mode binary
there for a moment. ;-)

I looked at some of the encoders listed at Digikey. It looks like
you can get detented 25, 50 or 100 pulse optical encoders for about
$30-$50.
