There is some high-end commercial equipment that is made with similar
material. I think it might be 1.5 or 2" hair dryer hose. What they do is put
rings made of nylon or some similar material inside the tube at strategic
distances, so that it doesn't impede the telescoping of the tube, but prevents
the tube from rubbing on the screw. Getting the rings to have the right
OD is trial and error, but when you get it right, the rings will stay put in
the tubes. Because the groove in the leadscrew is helical, the rings
should slide easily over the screw. Plain nylon or other non-filled material
won't harm the ballscrew.
