Dave,
Two more thoughts:
A) It doesn't HAVE to be pretty; just functional (tho' most of us
would choose pretty if possible). Anyway, a "bag" type cover would
also work. This would be very simple to fabricate (pun intended).
Just be sure the part where the nut meets the screw is held away so
the bag doesn't get caught in the threads...
B) Making your own bellows using GLUE instead of stitching could go
pretty quickly. This could be fabric glue and "tarp" material
"washers". These could be easily made with a 2 "ring" punch turned
on a lathe; i.e., 2 concentric vees turned proud of the face of some
suitably sized stock). It could also be done with rubber and glue.
Or Maybe a couple of leather punches and some type of jig for
concentricity.
If you already HAVE a small CNC machine it could even be used to
apply the glue. big circle. small circle. big circle... (you're
adding a "washer" after each circle of adhesive)
Hope this helps,
Ballendo
P.S. I saw a webpage/site devoted to folding camera bellows (for a
view camera). The step by step details there would work for shorter
travels; and longer travels would just be multiple pieces fastened
together. I didn't save the url.
