That works, you can also use a heat gun if you are careful about the
temperature.

The problem with manual single action pump solder suckers is they simply
suck the liquid solder, if any is trapped in a through hole and behind a
component leg, it's virtually impossible to re-heat the joint as there
may not be enough solder to conduct the heat to the place where solder
is trapped.
It normally ends up with over heating and multiple tried are get the
component leg free, which results in broken PCB lands etc.

With a motorized vacuum driven solder sucker system, new bees make the
normal mistake of applying the tip and allowing solder to melt and
applying suction... That is big mistake.. When the suction is applied, a
small circular motion to the tip will rotate or move the component leg
and allow all the solder to be sucked out.

I have now problem desoldering a 96way through hole Euro connector from
a 6 layer board... takes about 10-15 minutes... the connectors will drop
out when all joints are cleaned, and the connector and circuit board
will be fully useable.
