Thanks Rich, Jerry, John S.,

I think I'm going to try Link Maven as it is shareware with a 30 days
trial. Don't like the idea of having to get a license for laplink,
then finding it not compatible.
However, I may need somemore friendly help. Link Maven FAQ says I
need to disable some device drivers:
Question: "Why do I get only partial transfers and timeout errors?
Answer: "You are likely getting interference from another running
program, probably a hardware device driver running in the background.
If you ever used the LPT port on either PC to connect an external
device like a scanner, flashcard reader, zip drive, mp3 player, or
any program that used a hardware dongle then make sure the driver for
that device is not still running. Just disconnecting the hardware
does not disable the driver. You can see a list of drivers loaded at
startup by running the "System Information" program included with
Windows (Start/Run/MSINFO32.EXE). Then check under Software
Environment/ Startup Programs."
How do I disable the drivers?
Thanks again
