RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] laplink for cnc work

Hi, Keongsan:
I've used LapLink to transfer information between computers. It works well
and all versions are a matter of "point and click" LapLink can connect
either through the serial (you need a null modem) or parallel (you need a
special cable) ports. Newer versions can also connect via USB or a LAN.
Things to be careful of:
1. Transfer formats differ from version to version, and a newer version is
NOT backwards compatible with an older version - Thus, if your G-Code
interpeter is a DOS based program, you'll want to use a DOS based version of
LapLink. I believe that release 5.0 is the last version to run under DOS.
2. The DOS version, naturally, does not transfer LFN information, so you'll
be working with file names having the 8.3 format.
3. I don't believe that the current versions of LapLink work under either
DOS or Win 3.1 any more. I've seen copies of LapLink-4 and LapLink-5
floating around the Internet, but have no idea if they're there legally or
not.
You might want to search through the web for "FileLink" or some other
workalike programs if you're interested in a DOS based file transfer.

|Anyone used laplink to transfer before? I will be using some old
|computers for cnc work which cannot be networked, and I need to
|transfer some big acad files, etc. Is laplink easy to use? There seem
|to be so many versions? and it seems some will not work with some
|version of windows? Which version should one use if one expect to
|work with 486's MMX etc.
|
|Thanks in advance.
