Hi Mark,

I wasn't going to try to reply to this, but since I think I will need to
make a similar cut for a helix thread (a "shorting stub" for a tuned
cavity made from 5" TV transmission line), I thought I'd give it a try.

Seems to me, that if you put the work in a chuck mounted on your CNC
rotary table at right angles to the spindle, then all you need is a "PI
* D" long sine cut (length), which then corresponds to rotation. This
should be drawn as a sine cut in 'Y' (or which ever axis drives the
table), and the second axis has the "height" of the sine. The remaining
axis (probably Z) feeds into the work.

This is thus a "wrap" of 'Y' axis (in my example) *around* the
cylinder.
