Peter,
When you know the mathematical relationship between the points on a curve or
surface, it is easier for me to use the intuitive formula and not try to
draw with a cumbersome CAD program. Most of the Celtic knot designs on my
website were done using lemniscate functions in polar coordinates and
processing them with a spreadsheet program. Specifically the following two
designs:
http://members.rennlist.com/statmandesigns/Style-CK002.html
http://members.rennlist.com/statmandesigns/Style-CK006.html
All of my CNC designs have been created with Microsoft Excel. I also use
these same Excel files to calculate the varying feedrate parameters for the
different angular and linear axes for each of several thousand individual
moves. It also allows for simple scaling of the designs to fit different
width rings. Different size rings are automatically scaled since it is the
same angular measurement around a circle of any diameter.
Glad you were inspired by my suggestion, let me know how it works for you.
