Hi,
I would shoot for a supply in the 50vdc-70vdc range. The higher
the voltage, the faster the drive can get the stepper coils up to
the current limit(slew rate) and so you'll get higher potential
speed. If you run too near the upper supply limit of the gecko, the
inertia of the table may cause the stepper to 'pump-up' the voltage
during coasting, and could exceed the 80vdc. Then you'd need to add
a power-dump circuit.( there on in the files from Mariss )
1070 oz-in is more than enough for most machines. My mill has a 1:2
ratio on the steppers(1100oz-in)to the leadscrew, but it also could
move a truck and is overkill. Your going to have more friction and
backlash with regular leadscrews vs the more desirable ballscrews. If
you just need these motors for power feed that will be ok. If your
trying to do precision( repeatable) work, its not so good.
Hope this helps,
Lee
