The way the motors work, the coils oppose the permanent magnets at
least part of the time. So, at that time, excessive current could
demagnetize
the magnets. They have to build in a safety factor, of course. So, a small
excess of current probably won't hurt the motors, but it is cutting
the safety margin to a very slim amount.
