Power supplies are awfully simple.
a transformer, a rectifier and a capacitor. ok, some wires to connect
it all too.
getting the exact transformer to match your exact best voltage may be
difficult. But, getting that exact combination is more luck than
science unless your is burdened with dollar bills.
Many of us on here are off a few volts from perfect. as far as the
volts go, remember that a stepper should be driven with BETWEEN 5 and
20 times the nameplate. that is a huge window. get in the top 25%
and you will see very good results, in the upper 10% excelent results
and withing 1 or 2% and you cannot get any better.
I would venture to guess that the majority of us are withing the 5-
15% window.
$60.00 bux is very good. you can easily spend 4 times that and only
get a few percent improvement.

electrical engineers out there the only ones building their own, or
are there schematics out there for less knowledgeable persons like
myself? One expert has pointed me to a 24v, 8.5amp supply for $60
that should match my planned configuration. That doesn't sound too
expensive, I guess, but I was wondering if there was a cheaper way
(or a surplus source maybe). My internet searches have yielded
unbelievably high prices.
