Not to start a TFH, but I personally hope Windows doesn't take over
totally. Not because of the love of any OS, but because of the fear of
only ONE vendor. If Enron, Chrysler, MCI, Amoco, Gulf and other such
size companies can go away, there is no reason M$ could not too. I
would feel much better if they had a policy of putting source for each
released version in escrow somewhere, in the event they had a 'anomalous
event' in that corporation.
I also wish someone had the ability and desire to put a free / open
source / inexpensive shareware version of some real CAM software
available to hobbyists. I may just not know where to find it. If that
is the case, please let me know! ... Thanks

I get a lot of that still. "Windows can't do CNC", I work on multi
million
dollar machines that run under Windows XP and 2000
