This has never been the case for DeskCNC.

The scaling of the steps and microsteps is calculated in terms of
steps per mm, out to about 5 or 6 decimals.

This is still an advertised requirement. Arcs presently require the
same scaling in X and Y axis. This means the same pitch, gearing,
and steps/rev ratios on X and Y. Will probably change soon. The
most common type of machine using different X & Y ratios seem to be
CNC routers/plasma with a long X compared to a much shorter Y axis.
These tend to need higher topend speeds as well as well. 150-200 ipm
vs 15-25 ipm for milling steel and aluminum.

Fanout on all axes is 25 ma/ea. Can only drive one Gecko per axis.
Slaved A axis to X is also in the works for machines with two X axis
motors.
