As Graham pointed out, people don't ask about the chips, just the cut.

if you had a shop and cut dies for a punch press, fasted cutting time
would be the main goal, not how thick the wire.

if one guy could cut with a 0.001" wire and go one speed, and another
guy had to use 0.1" wire as they would burn up lesser wire, you might
not care.

Not accounting for the BS factor, and BS is the correct term when no
supporting information is given, the home shop EDM is sloooow.

The RC pulse generator is slow as compared to a digital pulse
circuit, and unless you are shaping the discharge pulse, you are
leaving a lot of metal per pulse.

A simple home digital pulse unit should be lots faster than the RC
style.

using shaped electrodes and perfectly alligned electrodes will also
go a long, long way to reduce machine time.


My question is about wire EDM plans. does anybody know of any public
domain plans ?

I see a wire in my far distant future and like to get an idea what to
put on my scrounging lists well in advance of actual purchas...er...
dumpster diving outtings.
