Speed costs.

how fast can you afford to go ?

a simple home RC unit will bust thru the hardened casing of a ground
shaft. most of us home guys do not mind spending a few hours
removing a broken tap so will live with the slow speed.

This is one reason wire edm is so popular. the slit is small so less
mass is removed.

The back cover of this months EDMtoday shows a wire EDM rated for 34
in2/hr. that is 34 square inches per hour of a 34 inches in a one
inch thick piece of stock.

page 26 shows Mitsubishi as setting the speed record for wire edm at
47 sq in hour. keep in mind these are top of the line stuff.

btw, www.abawater.com does the recycling of edm fluid.

I didn't stop to calculate, but the Langolis book indicated that he
took a few hours (like 4?) to remove a broken head bolt on a snow
plow. I imagine that was a 3/8 hole about 2 inches long.
