It is called a rule of thumb. Meaning it is almost never right, but has
enough margin that it will work. In this case because of the major over
voltage you are using it is major overkill. Sure will work if you want
to spend the money.

My practical experience is that if you figure it out based on watts in
and watts out and add a little margin you get a transformer that works
great and is not a lot of wasted iron and copper.
