Hi Bill
I can give a practical example...
My ballscrew lead and encoder combination gives 0.0001"
per encoder pulse. When I do a series of 0.0001" moves
it usually takes two or three before there is actual movement,
and the reported position error is about the same...0.0003" or so.
I can get even closer by adding more integral gain, but stability
would suffer for high speed high acceleration motion.
So that is about 1/700 turn of the ballscrew.

Howdy;
I've noted various references to 1000 and 2000 line encoders, but are there
any
servos that will actually turn one or two thousandths of a turn per
step/line?
