It depends entirely on the rotary table or dividing head. I got a VERY old
dividing head, and found there was an adjustment for worm engagement.
I tightened it up until the backlash was REALLY minute. I'm not
sure all of them have that capability.

My experience with utility-grade rotary tables is that they have a lot
of backlash,
and that no provisions are made for adjusting it. That's why they have
table
locks. With eccentric bushings, you can usually tighten them up a bit, too.
