I've used several shop vac machines over the years (wore them out). They
have all been single-stage vacuum motors. I use the crevice tool that
came with them a lot for small places like the table slots on the mill.
If you
do it right, you can put your hand or a piece of material over the slot
and vacuum
out the whole slot without moving the nozzle.

It doesn't work so well on long, stringy lathe curls, as they wad up and
block
the hose. Otherwise, though, it works great on all the sorts of debris that
machining creates.
