I have both bobcad and vector. I hate them both. They are about the least
intutive programs I have ever tried to run. I can often make a part with
bobcad, but only rarely with vector. Most of the reports you read here is
how someone finally managed to overcome the strange methods and get some
usefull work- the only person I have ever heard say he really LIKED vector
is Fred- (the guy that sells it :-) Everyone else seems to tolerate it.
But, last week I got an upgrade offer from TurboCAD that was to good to pass
up. I bought the V9 package for about $40 and registered it. I like drawing
wtih Turbocad-it has some great tools, and is very simple and logical to
use. I was offered TurboCADCAM for US$199 as an upgrade.
Ive only had it a few days, and so far have just tried out the tutorials
(real tutorials in clearly professionally written manuals) This is GREAT-
Its like going from an old DOS edlin to a modern word processor. The
operations are clear and simple- the code generation seems to be very
configurable. It is only a 2D program- but since TurboCAD is a full 3D solid
modeler, and a few of the screens have fields with obvious 3D terms (and
notes in the manuals about being reserved for future use.) it seems clear
this will be enhanced in future versions (its now V2). It has full support
for lathe as well as mill.
I think I have found CADCAM nirvanna!
