That is where I am having a problem, I think I understand the
basic Stepping Motor theory . How it single steps, half steps,
or microsteps (but not the circuitry or software that divides the
current between the coils).
I understand Series motors and compound motors although not
all the iterations of these, or some of the weird hookups.
I think that Sevos are more like a series motor in their physical
construction. They seem to be heavier than series motors of the
same physical size.
Brushless DC motors have been explained, but I sure don't
remember how they work.
and then there are selsyns which never seemed to make it to
CNC applications. I guess they are more suited to analog
applications.

Hi list,
I wonder if similarly constructed servos and steppers (same technology
magnets and laminations?) with similar WEIGHTS (don't laugh just yet)
could
be compared? If these things were equal, what would their ratings be?
Perhaps someone with a LOT of familiarity with steppers and servos
could
pick a pair?
Just an idea. OK, you can laugh now.
